Topic:  The American Red Cross Urges Blood Donors


The American Red Cross urges eligible donors to give blood in the weeks surrounding Independence Day to help ensure a sufficient blood supply now and throughout the summer.  All those, who come out to donate blood July 2nd through July 6th, will receive a Red Cross embroidered hat, while supplies last.  Donors of all blood types – especially O negative, A negative, and B negative, are needed.  To make an appointment to give blood, download the Red Cross blood donor app, visit redcrossblood.org, or call 1-800-733-2767.

Topic:  Program Regarding Alzheimer’s and Dementia


If you or someone you know is affected by Alzheimer’s disease or Dementia, it’s time to learn the facts. The program, “The Basics, Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease” provides information on detection, causes and risk factors, stages of the disease, treatment, and much more.  This program is designed for the general public.  There is a $15 fee for professionals, and a $5 donation is suggested for family caregivers. The program will be held June 30th, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., at the Pennyrile Area Development District (PADD) office, located at 300 Hammond Drive in Hopkinsville, KY.  Registration is required by calling 1-800-272-3900.

Topic:  The Next “Jobs for Life” Class


The next “Jobs for Life” class is quickly approaching.  “Jobs for Life” provides job training and support, enabling everyone to secure meaningful employment and experience new life in Christ.  Classes are free and will be held at Micah Mission, located at 209 South Main Street in Hopkinsville, KY.  Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting promptly at 10:00 a.m. and will last until 12:00 p.m.  Participants must attend an orientation meeting on Tuesday, June 30th, at 10:00 a.m.  To enroll, please contact the Aaron McNeil house at 270-886-9734 or contact Emanuel Wilson, “Jobs for Life” coordinator at 270-987-2055.

Topic:  “Hill’s Let Freedom Ring Revival”


Pastor Chris Wilson of the House of the Lord and Pastor C.R. Miller of Moore’s Baptist Church are co-hosting a community-wide Revival, known as the “Hill’s Let Freedom Ring Revival”.  It will be held Monday, June 29th, through Thursday, July 2nd, at 6:00 p.m. nightly.  It will be held in the old Pepsi Factory in Hopkinsville, located at 101 Gilbert Drive, off of Richard Street before North Drive.  Speakers include: Host Pastor Chris Wilson on June 29th; Felicia Merritt of Moore’s Baptist Church on June 30th; Brother Matt Pettry of The Place on July 1st; and singer, Tony Dabney on Thursday, July 2nd

Topic:  “Summer Gospel Fest 2015”

Topic:  Barbecue and Car Wash Fundraiser at the YMCA


There will be a barbeque and car wash fundraiser on Thursday, July 16th, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 pm at the Hopkinsville YMCA, located at 7805 Eagle Way By-pass.  Dressed hamburgers will be sold for $4.00; hot dogs for $2.00; and drinks for 50 cents.  Barbequed whole Boston butts will be sold at $25 each by pre-order only.  Pre-orders must be paid in full by July 13th.  To place pre-orders, contact Emmanuel Wilson at 270-987-2055 or Angelique Victor at 270-498-5836.  All barbeque is being prepared by the Pioneer’s Inc.  Car washes will be available for any donation.  All proceeds benefit the YMC outreach programs.

The Western KY Regional Blood Center (WKRBC) will have a bloodmobile available on Thursday, July 2nd, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.  This blood drive is being sponsored by State Farm Insurance-Michael Venable, located at 4239 Ft. Campbell Blvd. in Hopkinsville, KY.  There will be a Patriot American Home t-shirt for each eligible donor.  Also, for each blood donation, WKRBC will donate $5.00 to the Aaron McNeil House.  For more information, call Samuel Gaskins at 270-707-6085.  All donors must be 17 or older or 16 with parental consent, and weigh 117 pounds or more.  Also, check medications with staff; eat a good meal prior to donation; and allow 56 days between donations.

On Saturday, July 11th, the Aaron McNeil House, located at 2nd and Campbell Streets in Hopkinsville, KY, will have a commodity distribution on a first come, first serve basis.  The distribution begins at 10:00 a.m.  A photo ID or other proof of residency in Christian County is required.  No proof of income is required.

Topic: Upcoming Accessory Swap and Luncheon


There will be an accessory swap and luncheon to benefit the “2015 Walk to End Alzheimer’s” at First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 14th, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  First United Methodist Church is located at 1305 S. Topic:  Sidewalk Upgrades


A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has started sidewalk upgrade work along Skyline Drive from Ft. Campbell Blvd. to East 9th St. (Pembroke Rd.) in Hopkinsville, KY.  Sometime in mid-April, the contractor plans to begin milling and asphalt paving along this same section.  Motorists should be alert for lane restrictions and equipment, flaggers, and construction personnel along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.

Topic:  “Trash for Cash Program”


The “Trash for Cash Program” has officially opened for 2015.  Registration packets may be picked up and returned to the Public Works Complex, located at 705 North Main Street in Hopkinsville, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  The “Trash for Cash Program” will run from now until October 31st, or until the required 158 miles are completed.  Tax identification numbers for all non-profit groups are required in order to participate in the program.  Please contact Robin Charles at 270-348-5881 or by email at robincharles@bellsouth.net to schedule a day you would like to participate.

Topic:  Fourth of July Program


The Jefferson Davis State Historic Site, located at Hwy. 68/80 in Fairview, KY, will observe the site’s first annual 4th of July Program, with reading and signing of the Declaration of Independence.  The park will have the parade of soldiers representing the Revolutionary War to present, craft vendors, food vendors, period music, and dance.  Visitors will have the opportunity to sign the declaration.  All events are free except for monument and museum tours, which cost $8 per adult / $7 for military or senior citizens / $6 for children ages 5-12.  For more information, call 270-889-6100 or visit parks.ky.gov.
