From the Director's Bench
Dear WNKJ Family,
We here at WNKJ take great pleasure in sending you our “warmest” regards – pun intended!
On a more serious note, I hope you had the opportunity to hear Dr. John MacArthur’s National Day of Prayer sermon, which was broadcast on Focus on the Family on Tuesday, June 5, and Wednesday, June 6, at noon and again at 7:00 PM.
I truly believe that this was God’s clarion call to us, the children of God, here in America. It was broadcast in two parts, at noon and in the evening, both days. It’s the most powerful wake-up call to America that I have ever heard.
Let me assure you that this was not another “Make us feel good” sermon – but, rather, a clarion call to God’s people to “humble ourselves, fast, pray, and seek God’s face.”
Thank you for remembering WNKJ with gifts of support and prayers for strength – because...the World Needs King Jesus!!!
Love and blessings,
Billy T. Russell

Farewell to a good friend and fellow servant - the Shepherd's Shop Closes Its Doors.
Since 1974, the Shepherd’s Shop has been our local source for Christian Books, Bibles, and Christian conversation. In addition, it was at the early meetings held in the back of the Shepherd’s Shop’s original location on the side of the Skyline Shopping Center (next to the Laundromat) that the idea of a Christian radio station was first discussed, eventually leading to the founding of WNKJ.
Now, after 33 years of service to our community, economic realities have forced the Shepherd’s Shop to join the growing nationwide list of independent Christian bookstores and close its doors.
The staff, management, and Board of Directors of the Shepherd’s Shop have asked us to convey their thanks to the community for their support through the past decades, and pray God’s blessings on you all.
…and a “Partial Farewell”
First, the sad news: Kathy Major, our Tuesday morning Front Porch “Good Friend” has asked to step down from that position.
Now the better news: Since the majority of the interviews we air on WNKJ are recorded in advance, Kathy will still be doing some of them for us, as her new work schedule permits (not going to let that ability escape completely!); and some of these are already planned.
We also want to thank Marilyn Rowlett and her husband, Dr. Bill Rowlett, who have been filling in for Kathy this summer. They are always a delight and a source of insight for us all.
Please be in prayer with us as we seek God’s will for our Tuesday Front Porch.

It’s been an interesting Spring and Summer. First it was early warmth, then it was cold again, then hot, and now cool. (Memo to those excessively concerned over Global Warming: We’re only having marginal success predicting the weather a few weeks ahead, much less decades, half-centuries, and centuries. Besides, 30 years ago we were worrying about “global cooling” and a new ice age. Still need to be wise in our stewardship, however.)
No extra charge for the editorial.
Speaking of stewardship, some who have looked at our building have asked for an update on its condition and related needs. Here are some of our concerns:
Whenever there is a heavy rain, we have had an annoying roof leak in the auditorium for some time. Several attempts have been made to locate and repair it, but with no lasting success. The leak has finally gotten to the point that there is damage to the ceiling.
The woodwork on the back side of the building is in serious need of repair, as are a few other areas of the trim. Some of this will involve removing and replacing guttering.
As many have noticed, the exterior of the building, including the steeple, is desperately in need of painting. The repairs to the trim will have to be done first, of course.
The shingles, especially on the west and south sides of the building are showing a lot of wear. This one is not as pressing – yet.
We did just have the water line replaced (old line had a bad leak – and only some 60-ish years old, too). That has been done and paid for.
A key issue in all this is, of course, finances. Our annual Care-a-thon in October is to raise the operating funds for the coming year. If there is any “extra”, it goes into an interest-bearing account to be used for contingencies; however, the main “contingency” for the past several years has been our normal operating costs. Any gifts toward building maintenance – and they can be designated exclusively for that – will be greatly appreciated.
As mentioned elsewhere in the newsletter, Kathy Major has asked to step down from the Front Porch. She will be missed, and if you would like to send a card or note to her thanking her for her years of service, you can write her in care of WNKJ,
Finally, and quite importantly, please continue in prayer for our Armed Forces, and especially Fort Campbell as elements of the 101st and several tenant units prepare for another long deployment to “Mesopotamia”, and for their families during this time of separation.
We are exhorted in 1st Timothy 2 to pray for “kings and all in authority” – and that includes Presidents, Congresses, and Judiciaries, and at all levels. We only have to read the paper and listen to the news for a lengthy prayer list.
The World Needs King Jesus!!
Blessings.
