Spring 2007 Newsletter

Director's Workbench

Dear WNKJ Family,

Deuteronomy 7:9 says, “Know therefore that the Lord thy God, He is God, the Faithful God….”

We greet you in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are constantly reminded of your love and support, both financially and prayerfully…and your faithfulness.

Where would any of us be without God’s faithfulness to the whole of Creation?!!

One can see how the Apostle Paul regarded faithfulness in 2 Timothy 2:2, “commit thou to faithful men….” And of the high priority he set in seeing that the Gospel message would be extended to those who would follow in his footsteps, to ensure the continuation of the Gospel work from one generation to the next.

Please pray for our faithfulness to this present work and to those who will follow us…that they will be faithful till Jesus comes.

Remember that faithfulness is not a suggestion…but rather a command!!

Yours til Jesus comes,

Billy T. Russell

{Note from the station manager: Some of our Listening Family may not know that Billy’s “day job” was the owner and operator of Russell’s Sheet Metal in Hopkinsville; and that the business suffered fire damage last month. No one was injured, and with all units of the Hopkinsville Fire Department responding, the fire was contained and extinguished and damage minimized. However, Billy’s office was totally consumed – all records, etc., were lost. They are getting back into operation, but please pray for him and the continuing effort to reconstruct the office. – jda}

Changes, Farewells, and Welcomes

Weekday changes:
Children’s Bible Hour Storytime (3:30 PM, Monday – Friday) has been replaced by Adventures from the Bookshelf, and,

Adventures from the Bookshelf was moved from 4:00 PM into the former Storytime slot at 3:30 PM because…

We have added the daily version of Adventures in Odyssey from Focus on the Family in the 4:00 PM slot.

MBN Sunday changes:
The Moody Broadcasting Network, which supplies most of our Sunday programming from 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM, has also made several changes which affect us. These changes will go into effect April 2.

SRN News Headlines will be added at 8:30 AM, 11:30 AM, and 12:30 PM.
Moody Presents with Dr. Michael Easley will be added at 9:00 AM (WNKJ will continue to carry Moody Presents again at 6:30 PM as well.)
Living a Legacy with Crawford Loritts will move from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM.

Other Sunday changes:
The Wesleyan Hour (Sundays at 1:00 PM) has been discontinued.

God’s Great Outdoors has been moved from 3:00 PM up to 2:00 PM. (The Sunday program is repeated the following Saturday, also at 2:00 PM)

WNKJ Family Prayer Day Schedule

We plan to have three more Family Prayer Days this year. Here are the dates (barring unforeseen events!):
  • Thursday, May 10th
  • Thursday, September 13th
  • Thursday, November 8th
As always, we will begin Prayer Days at 6:00 AM and continue them until 9:00 PM or until the phones quit ringing, whichever occurs last. (Our all-time record for the end of a Prayer Day is 10:30 PM!)

Remember, you don’t have to wait for a Prayer Day! Our staff prays twice each weekday (9:00 AM and noon). You can write (PO Box 1029, Hopkinsville,KY 42240), call (270-886-9655 or toll-free at 1-877-885-9655) or go to our web site (www.wnkj.org) and e-mail your prayer request from there.

I really appreciate the comments and suggestions several of you have sent via the web site, or US Postal Service. It’s always interesting to see that some of the same programs are the favorites of some and disliked by others – a reminder that our God, Who doesn’t make two snowflakes the same, follows the same principle with His children.

Speaking of the web site (www.wnkj.org), we are in the process of doing some upgrading. Part is in response to some of those suggestions and comments I mentioned in the first paragraph; some we thought up ourselves (or those who are more computer capable than I).

Also in connection with the web site, don’t forget you can make donations via the website using PayPal. We don’t have a direct deposit system to our bank at this time, but hope to have web site capability for credit card contributions before long.

Have you noticed, Spring is here? I’m always amazed at how the trees and flowers bud almost overnight. However, even though the plant world responds rapidly, Spring is often a slow time for donations to WNKJ. This may have something to do with taxes, impending graduations and weddings, and such. The reason I mention this in the newsletter is that WNKJ has had to put in a new water line (BIG leak, water “usage” showed a 10-fold increase!), and the building desperately needs the exterior painted as well as some overdue external repairs before deterioration sets in. The auditorium part was dedicated in 1963, and the remainder of the building is, obviously, older than that. Any extra help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Exciting news! The Christian County Ministerial Association informed us that they are planning a WNKJ Appreciation Event! They have met with representatives of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Ministerial Association, who hosted the wonderful event for us last year. The event is tentatively scheduled for early May. Stay tuned (and check the web site, www.wnkj.org) for updates!

Our Board of Directors tactfully reminded me to remind our Listening Family that we do have a WNKJ Speaker’s Bureau composed of our Board of Directors and staff. If you would like one (or more) of us to speak to your church, Sunday School class, Bible study group, or any other gathering, about the history fo WNKJ from its beginnings in the mid of the late Dr. Bob Amis to the present day and plans and dreams for the future, please let us know.

Finally, and most importantly, please continue to keep our Armed Forces and their families in your daily prayers – and let them know. The dangers are real, and the strain is beginning to show. Moral support, and maybe the occasional help on the home front, means a lot.

Blessings.

Jim Dozier Adams
